LAKE CHARLES SWIMMING

Shubie Beach is a perfect place for a family swim, a picnic or to launch your paddle board.

Situated on Lake Charles, the beach entrance is adjacent to the Campground and  is accessible from 8:00 am - 10:00 pm daily.

The swimming area at the beach is operated and maintained by the City of Halifax and has a lifeguard on duty during summer months.

SHUBIE CANAL CANOE RENTALS

Tour the historic Shubenacadie Canal and beautiful Lake Charles by canoe, kayak or paddle board with Wildwood Water Sports.

They provide canoe, kayak and paddle board rentals at Shubie Park near the Fairbanks Centre, just a short walk from the campground.

* PFD and safety equipment are included with each rental

HIKING AND BIKING TRAILS

Step outside of your campsite and spend your day exploring the beautiful 16-hectare urban park at your doorstep. Shubie Park contains over 9 kilometres of wooded walking trails for hiking and biking, including part of the Great Trail of Canada. Some of the trails follow a portion of the abandoned Shubenacadie Canal, which passes through the park.

Looking to travel a bit farther? Hikers and Bikers can hop on to the Shubenacadie Corridor Trail just outside our doorstep and explore this great moderate, gravel trail that stretches over 12 kms and is ideal for walking/hiking, cycling and horseback riding.

OFF LEASH DOG PARK

Shubie Park Off-Leash Trail is a 1.8 kilometer moderately trafficked loop trail.

Enjoy the wooded trails, including a sizeable off-leash trail area; Sunrise Beach, an off-leash dog park on the shores of MicMac Lake for running, swimming, and making friends; many other places to access MicMac Lake and Lake Charles; and a Great Trail of Canada connection if you want to go for a long walk or jog.

PUMP TRACK

Grab your bike, scooter or skate board and head down to the pump tracks. Located next to the ball field the Shubie Park Pump Track can be used by cyclists of all ages and skill levels and with any kind of bike. It is a continuous loop of paved berms and “rollers”  that you ride without pedaling. It’s a great way to increase bike handling skills for younger riders, and for the whole family to enjoy cycling fun in a safe, traffic free environment. No motorized vehicles are allowed.

PICKLE BALL AND TENNIS

Pickle Ball - It looks like tennis, sounds like ping pong and favours the same light-on-your-toes action of badminton.

But pickleball is a sport in its own right, and an explosion of popularity has made it a fast-growing sport in Canada.

Our brand new court is open and ready for your serve!

PLAYGROUND

Swing on the set, teeter on our totter or simply monkey around on the bars. The playground at Shubie Park is sure to keep all ages laughing and having fun!

SHOPPING AND DINING

Home to an amazing collection of leading brand names for the entire family, exciting outlet stores which offer unbeatable saving opportunities, delicious dining options, their Go Wild! Playground and our Pondside Amphitheatre which hosts community events throughout the year, The Village Shops at Dartmouth Crossing offers visitors a unique and memorable shopping experience each and every visit.

HAPPY CAMPER TESTIMONIAL

"Campground is clean and well cared for. The amenities were nice and clean. Staff are warm and friendly. The campground is located very close to downtown Halifax and there is a bus route and a ferry that can get you there. The staff explained how to get to downtown Dartmouth and Halifax and I had a great day in the city. It's super great to have a campground so close to the city."
